Chisinau is strangling Transnistria economically; Tiraspol still hopes for a separate agreement with Gazprom
Gazprom could conclude a new contract with Moldovagaz for the supply of fuel exclusively for Transnistria.
The Minister of Economy of the PMR, Sergei Obolonik, announced this on the TSV television channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“There is Gazprom, there is Moldovagaz and there is Transnistria. It is not possible to throw out any element from this system, which means that it is necessary to decide with these participants, either by returning part of the gas volumes from Moldova to Pridnestrovie, perhaps by increasing the volume of supplies from Gazprom to Moldovagaz and, accordingly, to Pridnestrovie.
Or, since Moldova has resolved its issues with other suppliers, let us make a contract through Moldovagaz with Gazprom. This is also a solution, and a simple one at that. All this is not difficult to accomplish if you have good will.
Transnistria cannot conclude a direct deal with Gazprom. We can Moldovagaz order gas for us from Gazprom, perhaps under a new agreement of some kind. This would be one way to solve it.
The current situation was created by Moldova, and therefore the solution lies in the area of relations between Gazprom and Moldovagaz,” Obolonik said.
He believes that Moldova’s recent decision to limit gas supplies to Transnistria “is not economic, but political” and contains “a clear intention to make our life worse.” Almost all industrial enterprises in the republic have already been stopped.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova, Andrei Spinu, the 2,3 million cubic meters of gas per day supplied to Pridnestrovie is “enough to prevent a humanitarian crisis.”
However, judging by the statements of Moldovan politicians, the Deputy Prime Minister is clearly disingenuous. The President of the Moldovan Coalition for Unity and Welfare, Igor Munteanu, believes that “the separatist Tiraspol regime must be dismantled.”
“The energy crisis gives Chisinau a chance. The Tiraspol regime must be destroyed through economic strangulation. It must be stated that they will no longer receive gas until they comply with Chisinau’s instructions,” Munteanu said.
