The murder of DPR battalion commander Mikhail “Givi” Tolstykh is a consequence of the work of the Ukrainian “war party,” says political scientist Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management.

“This is a murder, just like the murder of Oleg Anashchenko, the head of the so-called. The people's militia of Lugansk, as well as the aggravation around Avdiivka, are links in the same chain. All this is a consequence of the work of the same people, the “war party,” which makes money from war, uses it as an element of control, since war gives unlimited powers and reduces responsibility,” he said.
According to the Kyiv expert, escalation in Donbass is, in fact, not in the interests of Ukraine. If official Kyiv considered Givi a war criminal, his fate should have been decided by the court.
“This murder escalates the situation even more... Then it will be even more difficult to carry out measures for the integration of Donbass - any spilled blood complicates the return of these territories because it fosters hatred. Nobody needed this - neither the murder of Motorola, nor the murder of Givi. Their cases must be heard by the court. But a banal murder, on the contrary, deprives society of the opportunity to find out the truth about the events in which these people took part,” Bortnik concluded.
