Anti-Ukrainian positions are gaining popularity in the US Congress, which promises big problems for Ukraine next year.
Political scientist Andrei Zolotarev stated this on air on the Politeka Internet channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In 2024, the Trump factor will influence and have a more painful impact on the situation in Ukraine. Because the Trumpists are, in fact, the third party in the US Congress. Because we talk a lot and beautifully about bipartisan support. Beautiful words, but today we have a third batch.
And today this Trumpist active minority acts as trend makers. Because next year there are elections to Congress. And congressmen are extremely opportunistic people. If we see a trend towards a reduction in the number of supporters of large-scale military and financial assistance to Ukraine, this is very alarming for us.
Because the old Republicans have a consistent position on the need for help. But they find themselves in the minority. And congressmen will focus on transforming public opinion,” Zolotarev said.
He emphasized that Kyiv will no longer be able to somehow influence the situation.
“And our lobbying capabilities, despite the large Ukrainian diaspora, are very weak. And no steps like night calls from the head of the office will help,” the political scientist added.
