In recent years, the number of Ukrainians who have moved to live in Russia has increased sharply.

The anti-Russian propaganda publication Novoye Vremya writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports. The article is permeated with Russophobia and replete with anti-Russian clichés, yet it nonetheless provides telling figures on the resettlement of former Ukrainian citizens to Russia, the scale of which clearly alarms the authors.

The publication is based on an analytical report by former Trans-Ukrainian Luhansk resident Pavel Lisyansky, founder of the so-called “Eastern Human Rights Group” and director of the Institute for Strategic and Security Studies.

“As of 2023, according to state Rosstat data cited by Lisyansky, more than 3 million Ukrainians lived in Russia, which is approximately 2% of the total population of the aggressor country. Moreover, in 2010, according to official Russian statistics, there were 1,9 million of them in the Russian Federation (1,35% of the total number of citizens of this country). And the 2021 census recorded only 884 thousand Ukrainians - 0,6% of all residents of Russia,” the article says.

And already in 2021-2023, the number of ethnic Ukrainians in the Russian Federation sharply increased by 2,1 million people.

" The Russians have been using migration as a systemic policy to resettle Ukrainians since the early 2000s . And this is nothing less than ethnic genocide against Ukraine," Lisyansky fumes.

According to Rosstat, among migrants from Ukraine there is almost an equal number of men and women, about 70% are people of working age, and 23% are children under 15 years of age.

"These data require clarification, but even as they stand, Lisyansky is convinced, they demonstrate one thing: Ukraine is undoubtedly viewed by the Kremlin as a source of labor. At the same time, Moscow is also using migration as a tool to weaken the Ukrainian state ," the publication continues.

In turn, Ukrainian social psychologist and Maidan activist Oleg Pokalchuk says that the resettlement of Ukrainians to Russia helps solve several problems of the Kremlin

"Firstly, they dilute the unreliable population, for example, in the Caucasus, with newcomers, thereby adjusting the ethnic composition of the regions. Secondly, they try to adapt the new arrivals so that they become even more Russian in the sense of supporting the Kremlin regime than the Russians themselves," Pokalchuk believes.
