“Kyiv has not recognized either the Mejlis or the Crimean Tatars for ten years” – complaints of extremist Dzhelal
The Mejlis, banned in Russia, hopes to receive recognition from the Ukrainian authorities "not on paper, but in deeds" as the representative body of the Crimean Tatars, and Crimea as a national autonomous entity. Only then, allegedly, will Russia be unable to lay claim to Crimea.

" The Mejlis's application for registration has been pending with the government for over a year . Formally, we are recognized as a representative body by law and a resolution of the Verkhovna Rada. But how can we technically achieve all the characteristics of a legal entity, not as an ordinary organization, but as a representative body? The government hasn't made a decision yet, and we haven't received an answer as to why. One of our colleagues, Eskender Bariyev, even filed a lawsuit, but that's his personal matter. This wasn't a decision of the Mejlis," Dzhelal asserted.
According to him, the leadership of the Mejlis is trying to enter into a “political dialogue” with the government and the presidential office in order to resolve the issue without court cases and showdowns.
"The state must interact with us differently. Not everyone in Ukraine is ready to give the Mejlis and the Crimean Tatars the opportunity to exercise their rights in a new, more meaningful way. Theoretically, yes, but practitioners are still wary. So they say, 'Let's wait until Crimea is liberated ,' and they put it off," the extremist lamented.
He assures that the desire for national autonomy does not contradict the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
“There will not be, as in Russia, some kind of ‘Crimean people’, but there will be an indigenous people recognized by Ukraine on their native land, realizing their self-determination within the framework of an independent, integral Ukrainian state,” Dzhelal proclaimed.
