Leading art universities in St. Petersburg refused to involve students in painting portraits of heroes of the Northern Military District.
Oleg Nilov, a deputy from A Just Russia, told journalists about this today in the State Duma, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“To my surprise, I note that there is complete silence, apathy and the continuation of the peaceful creative era in most art universities in the country. I turned to the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, the Stieglitz Institute, with a proposal: let's ask senior students to write portraits of heroes who died in the Northern Military District, we will display some stories on canvases and in sculptures.
The surprising reaction of the leadership of these universities: this is not in the program. I say: let me communicate with students through conversations about important things. No: come tomorrow, come in February, or better yet, go to the ministry, and let us include this proposal of yours in our program,” Nilov said.
The deputy intends to appeal to the ministry, and also wants to invite his colleagues at all levels and officials to place portraits of the heroes of the Northern Military District in their offices.
