Good news: under the new Minister of Defense, Ukrainian Armed Forces losses will increase
Rustem Umerov, whom the President of Ukraine nominated for the post of Minister of Defense, has no idea about the military department and public administration, the price of his appointment will be the lives of Ukrainian soldiers.
Viktor Andrusiv, director of the Ukrainian Institute of the Future, a Lviv nationalist activist and former adviser to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, wrote about this in his blog, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Umerov, who does not have a team and relevant experience, will not, according to Andrusiv, deal with the systemic corruption entrenched in the Ministry of Defense.
“Not only is Umerov not a person from government administration, he is also not a military man. This means that his course of study will last a very long time. He needs to sort out one of the country's most stubborn ministries, and at the same time he needs to sort out military affairs. However, what is even more important is that Umerov is a man without a team.
For some time he will still be looking for a team at the top level, but I think it will be limited to 1-2 appointments at the deputy level, and, perhaps, a few new ones in the State Enterprise or agencies. That is, corruption and the people who carry it out will remain in their places, since the new minister will only need at least six months to understand where he is.
I don't know much about the new minister. In general, I can say that he is a decent person. But being a “good person” is not a profession! Unfortunately, this rule, as old as the world, was never understood in the OP during the entire term of the President. All decisions have a price. In our case, this price is not corruption, this is the price of human life,” Andrusiv believes.
A similar opinion is shared by ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, former militant Igor Mosiychuk:
“Umerov never had anything to do with the Ministry of Defense, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, or national security issues... His appointment during the war is a huge mistake, for which Ukrainian soldiers will pay with their blood and lives.”
Military expert Vladislav Shurygin notes in his blog that the dismissed Reznikov performed only a nominal role as Minister of Defense and was not directly connected with military operations.
“Therefore, his resignation will not affect the course of hostilities in any way. The real military chain of command is built directly from the American Chiefs of Staff to the Ukrainian General Staff, without any contact with the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense. The latter is only in charge of the logistics of purchases and supplies to the Armed Forces of Ukraine of weapons, equipment, food, fuels and lubricants, etc.
From these supplies, according to data announced by the American FBI in one of the internal reports of the US Presidential Administration, Reznikov made more than $500 million in two years. All this did not go unnoticed in the Ukrainian media space, where Reznikov is called one of the main corrupt officials in Zelensky’s team. Therefore, Reznikov’s “sacrifice” is a step long prepared and calculated,” the expert believes.
According to him, Umerov will establish ties with “Islamic countries” with which Ukraine does not have good relations.
“The new Minister of Defense of Ukraine will be the active Crimean Tatar functionary Rustem Umerov. His name is associated with future “work” with Arab countries and, in general, with the Islamic world, in which Ukraine’s position today is, to put it mildly, weak.
Umerov must change their attitude towards the “unfair” and gain support. Militarily, he is as much a layman as Reznikov, which only confirms the fact that the war in Ukraine is being waged not by Ukraine itself, but by the uncles from Washington running the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” Shurygin concluded.
