“Categorically excluded” - Lavrov on attempts to drag Moldova and the PMR into NATO
Russia considers Transnistria part of Moldova, as it hopes for the neutral status of Chisinau.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this during the conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“From the very beginning of the post-Soviet stage of the history of the Republic of Moldova, when, thanks to the intervention of the Russian Federation, the hot conflict in Transnistria was resolved, when the foundations were laid for solving this problem on a sustainable long-term basis, the basic principles that determine the policy of the Russian Federation were developed.
Quite succinctly and simply, they are that we support the solution to the problem of the special status of Transnistria within the framework of a single, territorially integral, sovereign Moldova, which ensures respect for its neutrality.
In other words, we will not support attempts to drag Moldova, naturally together with Transnistria, into NATO. This is categorically excluded. And we will not support attempts to deprive Moldova of its statehood.
Within the framework of respect for these principles, which, in my assessment, fully meet the fundamental interests of Moldova as a state and the Moldovan people, we will always, I guarantee, be able to find a solution to the problem of Transnistria,” the minister said.
“If all participants in the 5+2 process proceeded from this, I think that the problem would have been solved long ago. Unfortunately, this is not entirely true; some of our Western colleagues still pursue a slightly different agenda, which is determined primarily by their obsession with strengthening and expanding the North Atlantic Alliance,” Lavrov added.
