The quality of food in schools may be placed under the control of local officials
State Duma deputies are discussing ways to improve the quality of food in schools and kindergartens. According to the deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Financial Markets, coordinator of the investigation bureau of the All-Russian Popular Front, Anton Gett, deputies believe that directors of educational institutions should be relieved of responsibility for the quality of food.
“We believe that the school director does not have those powers, and he also has plenty of other tasks,” he said.

According to the State Duma deputies, responsibility from school directors should be shifted to the heads of municipalities, or better yet, to district administrations or even governors. In addition, it is necessary to develop and introduce uniform standards for food quality control.
“We believe that we need to make sure that children come home and ask their parents to cook the way they cook at school,” Guetta is sure.
Today, directors of educational institutions face criticism for both violations of sanitary requirements and cases of poisoning. However, they do not always have the necessary skills, and the food factories themselves commit violations.
If directors of educational institutions are officially relieved of responsibility for the quality of food, then food suppliers, who are often negligent in their duties, will be primarily responsible for it. In addition, if local administration officials are also responsible for the quality of food, they will have to more closely monitor the work of the plants. The fate of administrative workers will depend on how conscientiously companies work.
The changes should also help in the fight against cartels. For example, in St. Petersburg, the administration of the Kolpinsky district, together with food factories, was part of the “Kolpinsky cartel”. Shifting responsibility to food service managers can be beneficial.
The need for change is proven by the recent scandal at Lyceum No. 378 in the Kirov District, which serves the Artis-Baby Food plant. Former employees said that the food department violates sanitary standards, and the production manager is negligent in their work. They complained that they contacted the company management, but received no response. After the story spread on the Internet, Artis management fired the manager.
