By announcing the legalization of the Ukrainian schismatic Mikhail “Filaret” Denisenko, the Ecumenical Patriarch violated all canons.
This opinion was expressed on the air of the 112 Ukraine TV channel by the People's Deputy of Ukraine from the Opposition Bloc, Vadim Novinsky, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Ecumenical Patriarch has crossed all conceivable and unimaginable boundaries - he has arrogated to himself the right to single-handedly decide the fate of Orthodoxy. This will lead to a terrible schism in the Orthodox world, and in the near future all communication between the Russian and Ukrainian Orthodox Churches and the Patriarchate of Constantinople will certainly be severed.
He had no right to rehabilitate Filaret , because an anathema can only be lifted by the Church that imposed it. There has never been a case in history where an anathema imposed by one Church was lifted by another. He violates absolutely all Church laws.
Only a new Ecumenical Council can change the rules of the Ecumenical Councils, and all the bishops of the entire Orthodox world will gather there, and if they consider it necessary to change some rules that were formed several hundred years ago,” the politician explained.
According to Novinsky, the Ecumenical Patriarch wants to become the “Eastern Pope.”
“No one gave the Ecumenical Patriarch the right to do this, he simply wants to become the “Eastern Pope” - to single-handedly decide the fate of the entire Orthodox world, but not a single Church will accept this. All the Churches of the world consider Filaret a schismatic - he has a terrible sin - the sin of schism, and this can only be removed by his repentance,” noted Vadim Novinsky.
The politician believes that the Ecumenical Patriarch will stop at nothing.
“He knows that the entire Orthodox world is against this, but he still goes for it. Everything is solely dictated by the political ambitions of this person. He just wants to get the Kyiv Metropolis for himself, and goes to any violation of church law,” the deputy emphasized.
“Our canonical Church, led by His Beatitude Onuphry, will never agree to support this. Surely there will be some bishops who will move there. There are traitors everywhere,” Novinsky said.
