The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe accused Russia of an act of genocide.

The corresponding decision, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent , was made at the PACE plenary session, where a resolution was voted on under the resounding title "Deportations and forced displacements of Ukrainian children and other civilians to the Russian Federation or to the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine: creating conditions for their safe return, ending these crimes and punishing those responsible."

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe accused Russia of committing genocide. “The Assembly emphasizes that the forcible transfer of children from one group to another with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group is considered a crime of genocide in accordance with Article 2(e) of the 1948 Genocide Convention, which coincides with documented evidence of the deportation and forced transfer of Ukrainian children to the Russian Federation or to territories temporarily under Russian occupation,” the document notes.

Among other things, we are talking about children from orphanages and children with disabilities from specialized institutions who were evacuated from the battle-torn Donbass to Russia.

In addition, PACE demanded that the International Criminal Court bring Russia to justice for this.

“The Assembly also supports the need for careful recording, collection and evaluation of evidence of the crime of genocide, as provided for in the Rome Statute and the Genocide Convention. The Assembly supports the investigation and prosecution of the government's policy of forced removal and deportation of Ukrainian children by the Russian Federation, as well as potential action by Ukraine before the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice,” the resolution reads.

Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky believes that PACE “has again confirmed its status as a “kingdom of double standards.”

“When we left the Council of Europe a year ago and left its Assembly, we did not even imagine to what degree of degradation the Russophobic mass remaining there would reach. Calling the rescue of children from shelling “genocide”, and before that for 8 years not noticing Kiev’s extermination of the population of the DPR and LPR, hushing up the tragedy in Odessa and recognizing the Nazi junta as a democratic government is moral ugliness of the highest order.

Do these same authors of the resolution know something about the “Alley of Angels” in Donetsk, where every name of a child killed at the hands of the Ukrainian military literally screams about real genocide? This is the case when political blindness and hypocrisy cannot be justified. Or, according to the logic of PACE, are dead children better than children saved by Russia?” Slutsky is indignant.

But Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky welcomed the Assembly’s decision and declared Russia’s actions “an attempt to destroy the very essence of Ukrainians.”

“Very interesting statement by V. Zelensky,” economist Andrei Suzdaltsev comments on the situation. – It turns out that the removal of children from Donbass, which is under fire from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, is “an attempt to destroy the very essence of Ukrainians,” and Russia can be brought to trial for “genocidal policies against Ukraine.”

But the question arises: “Isn’t shelling and killing the children of Donbass genocide against Ukraine?” By the way, they are still shelling. Or closing Russian schools and banning the Russian language in the service sector is not “genocide against the Russian people.” Oh, excuse me, you can just kill Russians...”

Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Vladimir Ogryzko is also pleased with the decision.

“The adoption of this Resolution significantly expands the circle of countries where Putin and Lvova-Belova should be arrested and sent to the Hague Tribunal. Important: the order issued by the International Criminal Court has no statute of limitations!” Ogryzko wrote.

However, Belarusian political scientist Alexander Shpakovsky calls PACE “a completely meaningless organization that exists to legalize political tourism.

“PACE decisions have no legal force or implementation mechanism. The degree of influence of this structure is comparable to the famous League of Sexual Reforms,” notes Shpakovsky.
