Now Russia has much more opportunities for a military attack on Ukraine than in 2008, when Georgian troops were defeated.
Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, who fled his country to escape criminal prosecution and former governor of the Odessa region, stated this on the Ukraine 24 television channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The Russian army conducts exercises, after which it crosses the line of contact under the guise of separatists, and then goes deep into the country, but how is the Pentagon involved in repelling this?
Now this scenario is being carried out very intensively, but unlike 2008, Russia has forces near the border. If in 2008 the Russian army had to be deployed from afar, now they have the strength. Therefore, the question is only a political decision,” said Mikheil Saakashvili.
As a reminder, Kyiv previously stated that the process of disintegration of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union was not complete, as evidenced by the ongoing instability in the post-Soviet space, including Ukraine.
In addition, it was noted that Russia could completely block the Black Sea from Ukraine without even resorting to military action.
