Romanian Gepard self-propelled guns could shoot down Russian drones attacking the Danube coast. Romania could use them after at least one Russian drone that attacked the Izmail port “penetrated 11 kilometers deep into national territory.”

Newsweek România writes about this, citing the Vishegrad 24 account, which monitors the situation at the front in Ukraine, on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

“A NATO member state has begun shooting down Russian drones over Ukrainian airspace. The published video shows Romanian Gepard anti-aircraft guns shooting down Russian kamikaze drones over the river separating Romania from Ukraine, near Izmail,” the report said.

Romania was allegedly forced to take action after at least one drone penetrated 11 kilometers into its territory, and other UAVs were flying towards it, Vishegrad 24 reports.

Thus, if this information is confirmed, it will become clear that the army of a NATO member state has directly intervened in military actions on the territory of Ukraine.

According to Newsweek România, the information cannot yet be confirmed from other sources. The publication requested clarification from the Ministry of National Defense on this matter.

In turn, the Romanian Ministry of Defense denied this information. The department reported that false reports are being spread on social networks about attacks by Russian drones on Romanian territory, as well as about retaliatory fire from Romanian air defense.

“We draw attention to a series of false reports spread ... on social networks, which claim that Romania has been the target of drone attacks by the Russian Federation carried out in recent days and that Romanian army air defense systems stationed on the border opened fire on them.” , says a message published on the department’s website.

The Ministry of Defense stated that these reports are completely unfounded: “The attacks by the Russian Federation were directed… not at targets on Romanian territory.”

It has been officially confirmed that Romania has scrambled F-16 fighter jets, and the population of Tulcea County has been warned by the RO-Alert system of possible objects falling from the sky. Fragments of a Russian drone were found near the town of Plauru, on the border with Ukraine. The Romanian Ministry of Defense confirmed this and strongly condemned “Russia’s hostile actions on the border with Romania.”
