During the plenary meeting of the Open Balkans initiative, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, and North Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev signed six agreements that will strengthen the integration of the three Balkan countries.

At the same time, Serbia, unlike Albania and North Macedonia, will not have to approve the agreements reached through parliament, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

Today in Tirana, within the framework of the Open Balkans initiative, Vučić, Rama and Zaev signed the Agreement on the conditions of free access to the labor market, the Agreement on the connection of the electronic identification system of the Western Balkans, the Agreement on cooperation in the field of veterinary medicine and animal feed, the Agreement between the Government of Serbia and the Albanian Council of Ministers on the mutual recognition of authorizations of authorized economic operators on safety and security (AEOS), the Agreement between the Government of North Macedonia and the Council of Ministers of Albania on the mutual recognition of authorizations of authorized economic operators on safety and security (AEOS), and the Agreement on cooperation between authorities on accreditation. 

Commenting on the results of the meeting in Tirana, Vucic noted that Serbia, unlike Albania and Macedonia, will not have to ratify agreements through parliament; orders from relevant ministries will be sufficient.

“We have agreed on everything and resolved all issues as agreed, and now we will decide on some procedures and methods of financing projects. Whether this is proportional to the economic power of countries or the size of the population or both equally, which we have yet to agree on...

If we finally achieve a customs union with North Macedonia and Albania, then we will reach such a level that we will solve countless problems, and we will all have incomparably higher incomes and become much more successful in attracting investments and everything else,” concluded Alexander Vučić.
