Head of Rosspetsmash: It’s time to build bridges to China - otherwise the end of grain records
In conditions when there is a need for grain all over the world, it is necessary that the government, taking advantage of the lack of sanctions in this direction, stimulates its export, and not strangles farmers with duties and quotas.
Chairman of the Rosspetsmash association Konstantin Babkin announced this broadcast of the Roy TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Indeed, this year we grew a big harvest. At the same time, the government did not stimulate its export, but restrained this export. She introduced quotas, export duties, and simply prohibited them. Now we have prices falling below cost. The peasants say: “I have grain lying around, I don’t know; selling it means making a loss this year.” If the situation does not change in the coming months, it means that peasants will make decisions next year to sow less, not buy equipment, invest less and, accordingly, work less. And then there’s less taxes, fewer jobs, and so on.
This is a man-made situation, it occurs against the background of the fact that the world needs grain. And China buys and wants to buy huge amounts of grain, and the Arab world and Africa need grain. I don’t see any work to increase this export, to stimulate it, to clear up bottlenecks. So far this drop is not so catastrophic and we have not gone below cost everywhere. Probably, people hope that after all, this grain will be sold, and some sea routes will be found to export it,” Babkin said.
At the same time, he recalled that until recently Russia ignored China in transport and economic terms, and now the time has come to correct everything.
“As far as I know, sanctions have not yet been imposed on the transportation of grain from Russia. Well, we need to expand transport corridors, build bridges to China, by rail, we need to start our own grain carriers. Well, this is an issue that also requires a solution, requires investment, substantive work.
Build bridges, build branches to China. We generally ignored China in transport, economic and political terms. We were all friends with Europe and the West, there were oil pipelines, gas pipelines, railways, there, there, there. But China, well, no. It’s time to fix this,” added the agricultural machine builder.
