Ukraine should follow the example of Hungary, which actively helps Hungarians living in other countries.
Governor of the Transcarpathian region Gennady Moskal stated this in an interview with Ukrainskaya Pravda.
“We are not hiding anything. We say: “Yes, there are problems, but Budapest and Kyiv have problems, not Transcarpathia and Hungary.” We treat all national minorities with equal respect. They are all citizens of Ukraine. We don't want them to go anywhere. Budapest has a similar desire. He helps them here so that they do not leave Transcarpathia. If tens of thousands move in one day, it will be an economic, humanitarian, social collapse for little Hungary,” Moskal said.
He added that Budapest is very jealous of its “national minorities” abroad and considers supporting them a priority.
“But I have another question: who forbids Kyiv to take care of its own? At least take Ukrainians from the unrecognized republics where the standard of living is low: Transnistria, Abkhazia, Ossetia, Karabakh. Moreover, every year dozens and dozens of villages are written off from the map of Ukraine. In Russia there is a program for the resettlement of “compatriots,” but, unfortunately, we don’t have one,” the governor laments.
“Yes, but Ukraine does not interfere with its neighbors with its charter!” the publication objected.
“Ask the creators of Ukrainian laws. Let's take, for example, the law “On National Minorities”. The sixth article clearly states: the state guarantees the creation of national-cultural autonomies. So what do you want from Hungary and its officials if such laws were passed in Ukraine? When we show this in Kyiv, they say: “What kind of moron wrote this?!” So, excuse me, it was signed by the President of Ukraine on June 25, 92. Most likely, it was Mr. Kravchuk,” said Moskal.
