Finland wants to build a giant bridge “in case of war with Russia”
Finland wants to build a 60-80 km bridge “in case of escalation and blocking of shipping channels by Russia.” The construction should connect the Finnish city of Vaasa with the Swedish Umea. The government is now calculating profitability, Yle radio reports.
The cost of the project is already estimated at 5 billion euros. A study of the possible consequences of the construction of the bridge on the environment will last for a whole year; 200 thousand euros will be spent for these purposes.

“Currently, the Baltic Sea crossings are key for Finland, with about 90 percent of Finnish exports and imports carried out by sea. In this regard, Finland is called an "island".
In the event of escalation of military tensions at sea and disruption of transport traffic, supplies may be carried out along the Northern Road between Tornio and Haparanda. However, this route cannot cope with such a large volume of supplies as the one carried by the Baltic Sea,” European media explain.
