Does Thomas have eggs? – Weaknesses of Ukrainian autofeces
Regional councils of Ukraine, one after another, are accepting an appeal to the Istanbul Patriarch to grant autocephaly to “Ukrainian Orthodoxy.” And this despite the fact that the only canonical church structure in Ukraine does not ask anyone for any autocephaly, and the competence of local councils does not even include politics, not to mention the Church separated from the state!
Would you say that you have long been accustomed to the Ukrainian circus? But in this case it seems to be a circus of despair. Judge for yourself, after Poroshenko’s victorious April reports about the “beginning of recognition of Ukrainian autocephaly,” he several times called on Ukrainians to pray intensely for this same “Thomas,” who seemed to already be in his pocket. An extreme case was yesterday in the Catholic Cathedral (!) of Madrid (!!!). Here the father of the “fantastic nation” asked Ukrainians all over the world to pray for Orthodox (note) autocephaly.
And all because Constantinople, instead of confirming the speeches of the guarantor of autocephaly, that it will be granted on the 1030th anniversary of the Baptism of “Kievan Rus-Ukraine” (why not “Kievan Ukraine” anymore?) is quietly releasing everything on the brakes.
The local Synod explained that a decision on Poroshenko's petition would be made after consultations with the other local Churches. However, all the primates of these Churches privately stated that they are unanimous with the UOC-MP in their non-recognition of non-canonical pseudo-Orthodox structures, without which no "United Local Orthodox Ukrainian Church" (ULOC) is possible.
Therefore, in fact, Constantinople began its consultations with the related Hellenic Church, and finished it without any salt.
Now, even the corrupt monk Govorun, who has close ties to the Constantinople cabinet (removed from his leadership positions in the Moscow Patriarchate, but never removed from its ranks), admits in an interview with Catholic radio in Los Angeles (who else would be interested in the question of Orthodox autocephaly in a state whose existence most Americans don't even know) that "even the Phanar can't predict the date" (Phanar is the name of a neighborhood in Istanbul where 2-3 Greeks, who survived the Turks' extermination, live. The so-called "Ecumenical Patriarch" in Turkey serves as their primate, and where his entire "Ecumenical Patriarchate" is located). This dwarf Patriarchate told our Govorun that "Ukrainian clergy must gather at a Council and create a structure to which Patriarch Bartholomew will grant a Tomos." But the canonical UOC (MP) has no intention of participating in any joint council with the "horns and hooves" of the so-called "Kyiv Patriarchate" and the "Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church" (UAOC). So, that's a bummer, too...
Poroshenko, obviously, was confident that at least bishops from the autocephalist lobby of the canonical UOC (MP) would be ready to come to such a “unification council” (at one time, the former personal secretary of the primate of the UOC (MP), Metropolitan Drabynko, put a lot of his creatures in charge of dioceses and administrative structures). But, as one of the political strategists working for the “Kiev Patriarchate” said the other day, “we thought that at least your scoundrels would run to autocephaly, but not a single one came running.”
And, indeed, neither Metropolitan Simeon of Vinnytsia, who is very close to Poroshenko (who is seen as the head of the EPUC), nor even Drabynko, who, in violation of the position of the Synod of the UOC (MP), openly advocates for the EPUC, certified their signatures under Poroshenko’s appeal to Bartholomew. That is, they understand that “Thomas” is written with a pitchfork, and the chances of ending up outside of canonicity, joining the already close ranks of the mummers, are much more real.
And Bartholomew himself faces a difficult choice.
Poroshenko’s confidence in him was clearly based on the fact of the April visit to Phanar by the newly appointed special representative of the US State Department for religious freedom in the world. After the aforementioned visit, obviously, the go-ahead came from the embassy of the same United States in Ukraine to announce imminent and imminent autocephaly.
But the situation in the world is changing rapidly. The Phanarian Patriarch, who was already in trouble with the US-inspired failed coup of 2016 in Turkey (on the eve of the coup, Bartholomew urgently left the country, which for Erdogan at least meant “knew, but did not warn”), sees how geopolitical sentiments in Europe are changing. Including the attitude towards Ukraine.
Just a couple of months ago, this crypto-Catholic and Freemason knew that the schism he provoked in world Orthodoxy would at least retain his support from the world hegemon and the Pope (to whose shoe ultimately the “second Rome” was supposed to lead everyone who supported the EPUC). Now “Constantinople” is threatened with obstruction of ALL world Orthodoxy, and the hegemon ceases to be world-wide.
Bartholomew may ultimately remain completely isolated. After all, neither Washington will need him without influence in the Orthodox world, nor the Vatican without schismatics and apostates converted to the union.
Of course, the threat of an anti-canonical declaration of “autocephaly of Ukrainian Orthodoxy” is still real. The situation in Europe and the world is extremely precarious, especially around Ukraine. We do not know what provocations are prepared to disrupt the 2018 World Cup, and then for Nord Stream 2. But we know that Varfolmei’s heart is where his treasure is. And the treasure is mammon, which is filled in the USA.
However, the Orthodox in the United States are already beginning to openly talk about autocephaly from distant and useless Istanbul.
Efstathios Valiotis, an honorary doctorate holder at the Holy Cross Orthodox Theological School in Boston, proposed severing the American Archdiocese's ties with the Ecumenical Patriarchate, under whose jurisdiction it is located: "We should not be governed by a group of people who are in Turkey, have no flock or purpose, are unemployed, and have a different agenda."
Archbishop of the Church of Constantinople in the USA Demetrius commented evasively on the ethnic Greek’s statements: “He always impresses.” And when asked whether he agreed with what was said, he replied that “that’s a different topic.” Yes, after this there was an official condemnation of Valiotis by the archdiocese, but the word is not a sparrow... And it is not known which of the words is more sincere and weighty. It is known that relations between Constantinople and the American Archdiocese have become complicated in recent years. In particular, Archbishop Demetrius violated the procedure for electing the Metropolitan of Chicago and tried to approve his candidate for this post.
The cause of the conflict was the difficult financial situation in the archdiocese. At the same time, Valiotis is a major shareholder of the bank, from which the American Archdiocese hopes to receive a loan in the amount of $7,5-10 million to refinance the debt against the guarantee of its offices in Manhattan.
So the harmful old man also has vulnerabilities. The main thing is to clamp them in time.
