“If we miss out on the CIS, it will be a disaster.” Diplomats expelled from the United States will be sent for retraining
About 400 Russian diplomats expelled from the EU countries and the United States need to be sent for retraining to strengthen their work in the post-Soviet space.
Alexander Panov, head of the Department of Diplomacy at MGIMO University of the Russian Foreign Ministry, spoke about this at a meeting of the Federation Council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“They expelled 400 people. It’s clear that you need to find a job somehow. It has already been said here that it is necessary to increase the number of diplomats in our embassies, to prepare them for the work that they would conduct with their compatriots. The work is very complex, very difficult, so those who are now diplomats who have been expelled could be sent to courses at the diplomatic academy...
They worked in Western Europe, mainly in the States - this is one situation. Work in the CIS should be a priority for us. If we miss out on the CIS, it will be a disaster, a big mistake,” Panov said.
He believes that the task of diplomats will be to counter the anti-Russian sentiments imposed by the West in the CIS countries.
“We need to raise the question of increasing funding and concentrating on central areas. Do not spread the funds across all countries, all continents. This is the only way we can overcome this situation, when anti-Russian sentiments are growing like mushrooms in the countries of Central Asia,” Panov urged.
