The EU is afraid of getting a second Ukraine in Belarus
It is difficult for the European Union to find consensus on the situation in Belarus, and therefore Brussels is in no hurry to introduce a fourth package of sanctions against Minsk.
This was stated by pro-Western Minsk observer Valery Karbalevich, who supports the Maidan protesters, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“The sanctions package has not yet been adopted, not because the EU has changed its position towards Belarus. Firstly, it is difficult for the 27 EU states to find a consensus, secondly, the EU today as a single structure looks weaker than it did 10-15 years ago, thirdly, there is a geopolitical factor - the fear of getting a second Ukraine in Belarus. And finally, previous experiences of sanctions did not give the result for which they were designed: the dictatorship did not disappear from Belarus,” the expert laments in a commentary to Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
According to him, there are no prospects for improvement in Belarusian-American relations.
Karbalevich is also convinced that the appearance of the American ambassador in Minsk should not be expected in the near future.
