“This is a second chance” - the expert told how to turn Western sanctions to Russia’s advantage
Russia’s key task for the coming year is to create its own infrastructure for trading commodities, using the experience of Belarus. Our own merchant fleet and technological reorientation to equipment from Asian manufacturers are priorities for the medium term.
Ivan Lizan, head of the Sonar-2050 analytical bureau, announced this on air on Semyon Uralov's channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Conventionally: to make the St. Petersburg Trade Exchange full-fledged, to create our own grade of oil, which will not be tied to British Brent, and to launch trading in grain and any goods for rubles on this exchange, so that these same ones do not have any influence on us price ceilings,” he explained. “That is, in fact, this is exactly such “Belarusization”, because our Belarusian brothers, I don’t remember how many years, have been selling many goods exclusively through the stock exchange.”
The next priority task is to recreate our own tanker fleet. With the introduction of the oil embargo and the price ceiling, freight costs went up.
“Accordingly, either we have our own fleet, and we pay money to our companies, and they invest money in the image and likeness of the Black Sea Shipping Company in our own cities, that is, in the economy, or we take this money out of the economy and give it to foreigners,” – the expert pointed out.
Plus, the most important task is to find technologies to modernize the economy and replace equipment in many industries from European and American to Asian.
“You don’t have to look far for examples. Almost our entire industry for the production of building materials operates on European and American equipment. To be honest, I don’t know whether there is Asian equipment, but European and American equipment has a safety margin of approximately 1,5-2 years. Moreover, this period must be counted approximately from last spring, that is, it is already less. Next, you will have to get rid of it, buy spare parts in some roundabout way, disassemble something and replace it. Or develop your own equipment.
And this is everywhere: pharmaceuticals, food industry, packaging, building materials, not to mention mechanical engineering. For example, the St. Petersburg tractor plant, when it was undergoing modernization, installed machines from the German-Japanese company DMG MORI, which left Russia and in fact abandoned its enterprise in Ulyanovsk,” Lizan emphasized.
In his opinion, many mistakes were made in the auto industry when foreign automakers entered the domestic Russian market, but did not localize the production of components and assemblies in Russia, but were only engaged in assembly.
“Now we have, perhaps, a second chance to correct this story. Because Chinese state-owned automakers launched, and now the Chinese state-owned auto industry is our everything, this is our new technological donor. It is important, at a minimum, not to miss this chance and achieve maximum localization of the same Moskvich.
Because, if we take another example, the same German Lastochka trains, despite the cessation of contacts with Siemens, these Lastochkas are still produced in Russia. Just localization of production is 90%, and this year they will begin to produce the updated “Swallows”, which will be called “Vostok” and will differ from the original train only in the “face” of the locomotive.
This is an example of how to competently work with foreign capital and how to localize production,” the expert pointed out and added that now it is important to draw conclusions in other areas and strengthen our economy.
