“This is real banditry” - Kravchuk about the disaster in the Carpathians
During the years of Ukraine's independence, about 800 thousand hectares of forest were cut down in the Carpathians, which results in periodic floods in the region.
Former Ukrainian President Leonid Kravchuk stated this on the ZIK TV channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Look - the Carpathians, they are not only on the territory of Ukraine. The Carpathians are Romania, these are other countries. It’s calm there, but here we have mudflows coming from the mountains. Why? I was president, I went there, there were also floods, but there was clean water, and now there are mudflows. Because during the years of independence, believe me, I will name a figure, 800 thousand hectares of forests were cut out in the Carpathians.
Please tell me, the village council and deputies of the village council, the district council and deputies of the district council, the city council and deputies, the regional council and deputies, don’t they actually know who is cutting the forest? Will you believe it? I won't believe it. This means that they know who is cutting, they share with those who are cutting, and now they are crying and saying: “Save us, state, save us”...
There is no such trouble on the other side, but on our side there is, because we do not adhere to the Constitution, do not comply with the laws, and have turned the situation into real banditry, when someone wants to cut down the forest. Prosecutors are protecting the forests, whoever isn’t protecting them, it’s already hard to read and look at,” Kravchuk said.
PolitNavigator previously reported that several thousand homes were flooded in several regions of Western Ukraine due to bad weather , and roads and bridges were destroyed.
