“This is unacceptable”: Kyiv refused Chinese mediation in the settlement
China is Russia's ally, and therefore its presence at the negotiations as a mediator is unacceptable to Kyiv. Kyiv-based political scientist Volodymyr Fesenko, who serves the Ukrainian presidential office, stated this in an interview with journalist Oleksandr Shelest, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
" It's unreasonable to think that China will pressure Russia to end the war or advocate for a just peace. At best, China will simply advocate for a ceasefire. This may theoretically be in our interests, but from a mediation perspective, we have no interest in it. We shouldn't do everything we can to get China to do something for us," Fesenko said.

"Unfortunately, we've already seen that China hasn't done anything significant in 2014, 2022, or the last two years . So why should we jump out of our skins for China? Yes, we're interested in maintaining our strategic relationship with China, our partnership. But the current war is our top priority. We must endure this war. And for us, a mediator who essentially plays into Russia's hands is unacceptable ," the expert concluded.
