“This is 70% of the budget” – Europe is horrified by the prospect of the US leaving NATO
In recent years, the United States has been reducing its military contingents around the world, and may soon leave NATO altogether to focus on the confrontation with China.
Bulgarian political scientist Plamen Paskov said this on air on the Vyshka Internet channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The presenter asked whether the United States could leave NATO if Donald Trump becomes the next president.
Plamen Paskov recalled that precedents for states withdrawing from this organization have already happened.
“That’s why Trump can leave NATO. I wouldn’t be surprised if he becomes president – and does it within six months. Because more than seventy percent of all NATO budgets have been paid by the American taxpayer throughout history.
And all the supreme commanders of NATO are only American career generals. That is, NATO is an American proxy army that must resolve issues on the European continent,” the political scientist said.
He emphasized that against the backdrop of growing tensions in relations with China, Europe is becoming a burden for Washington.
“If you haven’t noticed, over the last two years there has been a de-Americanization of many areas of the Earth. And this de-Americanization is being carried out by the White House administration. That is, they left Afghanistan, reduced their presence in Syria, and are leaving Ukraine and Europe.
The number of US military bases remains the same, but the occupancy is decreasing. Because for both Trump and Biden, the main problem is China. And this problem can only be solved through “AUKUS”; why would they keep military resources in Europe, which is financially and energetically subordinated. But Ukraine can be resolved in another way,” Paskov added.
