“The era of nepotism continues” – Zelensky’s girlfriend appointed to a money position
Endemic nepotism flourishes in the highest echelons of the Ukrainian government - old acquaintances and friends are appointed to positions without thinking about professionalism.
European Solidarity deputy Alexey Goncharenko stated this during a plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The deputy took the floor during parliament’s consideration of the issue of appointing Zelensky family friend Svetlana Peschanskaya to the post of head of the Accounts Chamber of Ukraine.
“We say that we want to go to Europe. Please show me one EU country where the chairman of the Antimonopoly Committee, where the chairman of the Accounts Chamber is a relative of the president’s family. One! I ask you to show me one EU member country, or the USA, or Canada, where they saw this? And in Ukraine - please.
Ms. Peschanskaya, who could not be pushed into the pre-New Year meeting, is now being pushed into the post-New Year meeting.
You understand, there is no need to be offended and say how this can be done. Where is the end of the era of nepotism, where? Do you understand why you are not appointed? Well, because you are not the president’s neighbors, not friends, not relatives, your sister is not the owner of the company for which the Zelensky family villa is registered. Well, you're out of luck, you know. And Mrs. Peschanskaya is lucky! So there is no need to envy, but let yourself already occupy all the positions that exist in the state. Or we could merge the Antimonopoly Committee, the State Property Fund, and the Accounts Chamber at once, because that would be convenient, that would be cool,” Goncharenko said.
He emphasized that in this way the Zee government violates the demands of the West and runs into a new conflict with its “partners.”
“Tell me, how can it come to this? Let me remind you that all the G7 ambassadors appealed to parliament and said: do not appoint new members of the Accounts Chamber, do not appoint the chairman of the Accounts Chamber until this body is reformed.
So what are you doing? They didn’t care, they wiped their feet, we appoint, we don’t care. And tomorrow they will say: how can this be, where is the support, where is the international support, why they don’t support us, and why they don’t give us money? Yes, because we live at their expense, and they say: we want to see how the Accounts Chamber controls that you do not steal it all. And the answer is, what Ukrainian parliament? What is the majority answer? A relative of Zelensky’s friend is nominated for a position. Full control. Well, that's a shame!
Ms. Peschanskaya, if you have dignity and understanding, you should recuse yourself now, right here and now. Don't disgrace Ukraine. Stop, we are in an extremely difficult situation. We need to pray for support. We need to explain and show our 100% transparency. But instead, they again assign relatives and close people to those places that they must control so that they do not steal. Because you want to steal, and you can't do that. Stop before it’s too late,” the deputy was indignant.
However, they did not listen to him, and during the voting, 252 parliamentarians voted for the appointment of Peschanskaya as head of the Accounts Chamber.
