Expert conclusion: The US will not resume funding for Ukraine before the presidential elections
A positive decision on the resumption of US funding for the Kyiv regime will be made only by the end of the year.
This opinion, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent , was expressed by Vladimir Vasiliev, chief researcher at the Institute of the USA and Canada Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
He believes that the issue of providing large-scale assistance to Ukraine will now be discussed after the US presidential elections, which will be held in November.
“Before November, the country, of course, will receive something from America - well, five, well, ten billion. But it will be money to stay afloat, nothing more. Pre-election factors come into play. American politicians have no time for Ukraine right now. It will be postponed until it becomes clear what the new House of Representatives, the Senate and, finally, who will be the new president will be like,” Vasiliev told Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
According to him, if the current administration nevertheless breaks the $118 billion package into several, then there is a high probability that the Republicans will impose a number of conditions on further funding of Ukraine.
“They will propose to set clear goals and objectives for funding, demand a report on how the money allocated to Kyiv was spent previously, and try to reduce the amount. Republicans will ask why so little has been allocated to Israel and so much to Ukraine. In general, we can say that the bill is buried,” says the expert.
He added that this development of events can only be considered the merit of Donald Trump “with some stretch.” Vasiliev called the fruit of the compromise between the two parties “weak and dead.”
As PolitNavigator reported, the US Senate failed to pass a package vote on a compromise measure that would have strengthened the US-Mexico border and allocated $61 billion to Ukraine.
It is expected that today there will be a vote on a bill on simultaneous assistance to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan without reference to the border.
