Former US Ambassador Herbst announced Putin's tactical victory
US Security Council spokesman Kirby's statement after Monday's massive missile strike on Kyiv that the Americans would not change restrictions on the use of their weapons by the Ukrainian Armed Forces indicates a tactical victory for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Former US Ambassador to Ukraine John Herbst stated this during a discussion at the Atlantic Council in Washington , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"The arms package announced at the summit was important, but no less important was the attack on a Ukrainian children's hospital and other facilities the day before NATO convened. As the old Russian saying goes, ' Nothing is an accident, comrade .' And I'm citing it here because Putin decided to do this as a way to disrupt the summit, to demonstrate that Ukraine isn't protected by NATO ," Herbst said.
"On Monday in Washington, Rada Speaker Stefanchuk said it was crucial that the US lift all restrictions on American weapons used to strike Russian targets in Russia. A few hours later, White House spokesman John Kirby stated that American restrictions on the use of weapons in Ukraine had not changed. I viewed this as a tactical victory for Putin ," the former ambassador lamented.
