The very fact that the DPR is organizing such elections and preparing for them is a politically very significant element of the international situation. I personally believe, as an Italian and a European, that the future of the world largely depends on your progress. I know that you are living in an emergency situation, of course, I wish you all the best in the future, but nevertheless we must take into account the fact that there is no reconciliation yet, and you are in a dangerous situation, and in this dangerous situation you are behaving very calmly. I know and understand that not everything depends on you and not everything depends on your friends, but nevertheless... I believe that if you win, democracy will win. I wish you success.
We saw a lot of preparatory work. Yesterday I personally listened to the speech of the chairman of the All-Russian Regional Industrial Commission, who himself emphasized that this is an experiment. This is your first time organizing such an event. How well the preparations went will be judged directly on election day - when we see how people go to vote, how involved they are in the process. But at the moment I can say for sure that everything is very organized and thought out. I don't know two similar democracies in the world. Each nation builds its own special democracy. And you are at the beginning of this process. You are experimenting. This is the first good way.
Once upon a time, European standards were really good standards. I'm old enough to tell you that there was a period when in Europe there was a fairly high level of people's participation in all processes. After all, what is democracy if not the participation of people? There were contradictions, there was struggle, sometimes even tough, but all the rules were followed. Now democracy in Europe has deteriorated. Why? Because we have limited freedom of information, and when most people don't know what kind of world they live in, how can they choose anyone? Our media’s interpretation of what is happening in Donbass is blasphemous. The vast majority of Italians do not know what has been happening here for the last 2 years,” concluded Giulietto Chiesa.
