The Russian economy is currently experiencing a unique economic boom.
Former Russian presidential adviser, economic expert, and foreign agent Andrei Illarionov, who fled to the United States, stated this in an interview with Ukrlife, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“After a slight slowdown that was observed in the first few months from February to May 2022, the decline of the Russian economy has stopped. And starting from June 2022, the rise began. If at the beginning it was relatively modest, a few percentage points, then with each new quarter economic growth accelerates. The latest estimate for 2024 is that GDP will grow by 3,5-4%.
Apparently, these are real numbers. After 2014, there was not a single year, with the exception of post-Covid, when the Russian economy grew at such a pace in real terms. These are record growth figures,” Illarionov said.
According to him, in 2022 Russia's GDP increased by 21%.
Illarionov sees the reason that Western sanctions were aimed “at increasing the economic potential of the aggressor,” since they did not affect Russian exports, but, on the contrary, created a favorable environment for them. As a result, Russia’s additional income in 2022 amounted to more than $400 billion, in 2023 - more than $200 billion, in 2024 this value will be between $200 and 300 billion.
