A family rehabilitation center will be built in Crimea for seriously injured heroes of the Northern Military District
A specialized center will be built in Kerch for the rehabilitation of injured SVO participants and their family members.
The center is planned to house a prosthetics, physical therapy, and psychological care department, as well as a private beach with a ramp for special operations veterans with limited mobility, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The administration of Kerch transferred the abandoned building of school No. 21 in the village of Mayak, named after the commander of the Kerch-Eltigen landing operation, Hero of the Soviet Union, General Ivan Petrov, for the rehabilitation center. In 2011, the school, designed for 250 people, was closed due to low demand - only 30 students attended it. Over more than 10 years of inactivity, the building has fallen into disrepair, and first of all, it is necessary to determine the stability of the structures and the integrity of utilities.
“This project has very ambitious goals, it is very multifunctional and will work both as a rehabilitation center for soldiers and as a rehabilitation center for their families,” said Alexandra Demochkina, project manager for the construction of a rehabilitation center, on Radio Crimea. “Therefore, there will be a department for prosthetics, which will need to be carried out, psychological assistance and support, physiotherapy rooms, gyms, exercise therapy, various relaxation areas, even to the point that we have planned a petting zoo on the territory, which is a great way to relieve stress.”
The construction is financed by the “Thank you Mom for Life” foundation. Using charitable donations, in 3 years it is planned to launch the first branch and develop a beach, which is located 100 meters from the school, but must meet all the requirements of an accessible environment.
“The fund is charitable, so, of course, a lot depends on the receipt of funds, but we set ourselves the task of starting to gradually put into operation department by department in 3 years. Now on the territory there is a former school building, which has not been used for a very long time. Our task is to bring the building into working condition as soon as possible, repair everything there, install communications there, and slowly begin to introduce premises,” Demochkina clarified.
They will have to be reconstructed and adapted for movement, and then there will be prosthetics workshops. It will be later".
In addition to medical rehabilitation, the center has a task of professional reorientation: training or assistance in finding new professions for those who cannot return to their previous work due to injuries.
“We are setting ourselves the task of taking the issue more broadly, because it is not enough to simply put a person on his feet - we need to work very seriously psychologically with him, with his family, who will live with him, with the way he came and the way he has become,” – emphasized the project manager.
It is planned that the center will be able to accommodate up to 100 people at a time. And there may be more such centers in Crimea, since the sanatorium and resort sector can be reoriented in a short time to the rehabilitation and treatment of SVO participants. According to the head of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, this should become part of the work of the state fund for personal assistance to the families of fallen soldiers and veterans of a special military operation.
“The government of the Republic of Crimea is calculating a recreation and health program for SVO participants, as well as children from low-income families, on the basis of the peninsula’s sanatorium and resort complex,” Aksenov wrote in his Telegram channel. “According to preliminary estimates, about 13 billion rubles need to be allocated for these purposes.”
