For NATO, it doesn't matter where Ukraine's borders are
Ukraine's borders are very arbitrary and do not affect the security of Western countries.
Former US Ambassador to the USSR Jack Matlock stated this in an interview with the YouTube channel "Duran," reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"For Germany or other NATO members , the border between Ukraine and Russia is completely irrelevant. Ukraine's borders, according to the current Ukrainian government, were established by Hitler and Stalin. And those who say we should go there are completely wrong. These borders are not traditional borders established through wars, negotiations, and so on.
They emerged almost by accident after the collapse of the USSR, when Russian leader Boris Yeltsin was so determined to get rid of Gorbachev that he struck a bad deal . But the Russians were willing to accept this as long as there was no prospect of Ukraine becoming an ally or part of a hostile alliance," Matlock said.
He stressed that Ukrainian borders have absolutely no impact on the security of the United States, Germany or Poland.
