Die Welt: There should be no illusions. Ukraine is splitting up
Berlin - Kyiv, November 04 (PolitNavigator, Vasily Ablyazimov) – The influential German daily Die Welt is outraged by the West's impotence in Donbas and Ukraine. "There should be no illusions. Ukraine is splitting, the West appears powerless," the newspaper writes today.

“We are outraged,” the publication’s authors are indignant, “that two dubious, self-proclaimed “rebel leaders” in eastern Ukraine, Zakharchenko and Plotnitsky, are demonstrating to the EU. After the disputed elections in Eastern Ukraine, the Europeans are calm and doing nothing!
Of course, we unanimously and obediently condemned the elections as “illegal.” Of course, the European Union called on the government in Moscow once again not to jeopardize the unity of Ukraine. But tougher sanctions will never happen. There are a number of EU countries that are already calling sanctions against Russia that they have gone too far,” the influential daily newspaper is confident.
German journalists believe that the elections in eastern Ukraine are not a small matter, but an important milestone. “It is now clear what was hinted at after the announcement of the agreement in Minsk, saying that the republics are “people’s” and that Donetsk and Lugansk will be lost to Ukraine, regardless of their form of existence,” Die Welt publishes the opinion.
The conflict in eastern Ukraine will continue and will be frozen indefinitely. “And the EU, despite all the outrages, essentially resigned,” the publication states.
Ukraine, according to German journalists, will remain a torn country in the coming years. Kyiv will receive even stronger violations of sovereignty. Russian President Vladimir Putin, the author of Die Welt believes, will never allow Moscow to lose control over foreign policy and, above all, over Ukraine. Moreover, the author of Die Welt is confident that “this toad must swallow Washington and Brussels in the end.” The newspaper uses the meaningful word “Kröte” to refer to Putin, which translated from German means both a toad, and a mean one (colloquial), and a crumb in relation to a little girl (joking).
And without joking, Die Welt summarizes: “The great desire of many Ukrainians to one day join the European Union and NATO is therefore likely to remain an impossible dream, despite all the assurances and consolations in the West.”
