Dozens of detained and injured. How the riots at Makhachkala airport ended
The situation at Makhachkala airport, where mass riots inspired by Ukrainian-run Telegram channels broke out, has been brought under control.
This was stated in an official statement by the Dagestan government, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The government of the Republic of Dagestan reports that the situation is under control, security services are working on the spot,” the message states.
At three o'clock in the morning, the press service of the Dagestan Ministry of Health reported that more than 20 people were injured during the riots at the airport.
“Two people are in serious condition. Among the victims are police officers,” the department added.
And the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the North Caucasus Federal District informed in the morning that more than 150 participants in the riots at the airport had been identified, 60 of whom were detained.
“As a result of illegal actions, 9 police officers suffered various injuries, two of them are in the hospital,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs clarified.
In this case, the airport will be closed to receive aircraft. True, if it was previously announced that the air harbor would be closed until November 6, now this period has been reduced.
“The period of temporary closure of Makhachkala airport for the reception of aircraft will continue tentatively until 02.59 (Moscow time) on October 31, 2023,” Rosaviation said.
It is noted that the airport will be opened after a thorough check by the special services of the air terminal, airfield and surrounding area has been completed.
