“Demonstration of presence” - Russian Navy officer on Storm Shadow strikes on Lugansk
British Storm Shadow missiles transferred to the Ukrainian Armed Forces pose a danger along the entire perimeter of contact, including Crimea and the forces of the Black Sea Fleet. The strikes on Lugansk were a demonstration of the presence of these missiles for the purpose of terror, PR and intimidation.
An officer of the Russian Navy told PolitNavigator about this.
“Of course, there is a threat. This missile has been developed since the mid-90s and entered service with the armies of a number of NATO countries in the early 2000s. The advantage of the rocket is that it is programmed on the ground and flies according to coordinates. Retargeting and self-destruction upon command from the carrier are impossible. However, this circumstance and the not very high speed, approximately 0.8 Mach, are both disadvantages. It is shot down by modern air defenses.
For S-300, 400 this is an easy target. At the same time, if it is used as part of a massive strike in combination with other types of missiles and drones, it will pose a serious danger. The charge power of this missile is decent, and our air defense systems operate with this in mind,” the source said.
He explained why Russian air defense in Lugansk had already missed British missiles several times.
“Most likely, in Lugansk there was a demonstration of the presence of these missiles at the Khokhloreich. We do not have continuous air defense coverage; first of all, the most significant air defense and defense industry facilities are covered. The Ukrainian Armed Forces, and in this case the subjects of Charles III, are looking for gaps in our air defense and striking not at military targets, but deliberately at cities to increase the effect, PR and intimidation. In a word – fascists,” said the Russian officer.
