British professor: In Ukraine we are facing the first defeat since the Cold War
The West has reached a critical point in the conflict in Ukraine, and today Russia looks like the favorite in this confrontation.
British historian and Harvard University professor Neil Ferguson stated this on the air of American journalist John Anderson's video blog, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“If Donald Trump is elected president in November 2024, then I don’t see how Ukraine can win. In fact, it seems to me that Ukraine will most likely lose. We have reached a critical point in the conflict, we have reached a dead end, the Ukrainians themselves admit it. Their summer offensive produced far less results than they had hoped.
In terms of raw materials, it is a game of David against Goliath, but at the moment Goliath is looking more and more likely to be the favorite,” the expert says.
“If Russia wins this war or, to put it very, very modestly, if it can maintain control over the parts of Ukraine that it currently controls, over the so-called land bridge that extends straight down to Crimea, which it annexed in 2014 , this will be the first major defeat of the West in the second Cold War...
If we lose, our credibility will be undermined,” Ferguson said.
He explained that the effect of securing new territories to Russia will provoke more active opposition to the West by Iran (confrontation with Israel) and China (the return of Taiwan to the control of Beijing).
