Borrell called on EU armies to be ready to mobilize
The EU countries have “finally” woken up after a long process of silent disarmament and are reviving the military industry, and we must be prepared for the fact that significant funds will be needed for this.
European Union Foreign Affairs Representative Josep Borrell stated this at the Munich Security Conference, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Finally everyone woke up. We have been engaged in silent disarmament in Europe for a very long time; little by little we have been losing our military potential. Now we have begun to increase it; the military potential has increased by 40 percent per year. It’s not enough yet, but we have already begun to move in this direction. We will not play any significant political role unless our military industry is revived.
Defense is the responsibility of EU members, because EU members are the ones with the military and military capabilities. We must improve our coordination and be able to mobilize our military when necessary.
"Under my watch, seven civil-military missions have been launched in the area of common policy, while my predecessor launched only one. Next month, the next one, regarding freedom of navigation, will be in the Red Sea. So, we are a geopolitical player, and we need resources for this; we need very robust defense capabilities ," Borrell stated.
