Boris Akunin became a foreign agent after Matveychev appealed to the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation
The Russian Ministry of Justice announced on Friday evening that the writer Boris Akunin (the pseudonym of Grigory Chkhartishvili, who was also recently included in the register of terrorists and extremists) was included in the register of foreign agents.

State Duma deputy Oleg Matveychev told PolitNavigator that shortly before the decision of the Ministry of Justice he sent an appeal to the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov about the need to assess the activities of Akunin-Chkhartishvili.

“I have received numerous appeals from citizens and scientists, historians with complaints about the activities of Grigory Shalvovich Chkhartishvili (known under the pseudonym Boris Akunin), who lives in London, but is active in publishing on the territory of the Russian Federation and on the Internet, being one of the most popular writers of Russia, who published about 70 works and about 30 translations of literature.
Without detracting from the literary and commercial talents of G. Sh. Chkhartishvili, it is quite obvious that he is under foreign influence in accordance with the grounds provided for by the Federal Law “On control over the activities of persons under foreign influence.” This obliges us to recognize G. Sh. Chkhartishvili as a foreign agent in order to inform the Russian population about his real status.
Considering the writer’s fairly wide audience, this seems necessary and justified, not to mention the legal requirements that should apply to all citizens of the Russian Federation, regardless of their achievements and recognition.
Also, I would like to draw your attention to the work of G. Sh. Chkhartishvili “History of the Russian State”, in the title of which “Russian state” is indicated with a small letter, which reflects the essence of its text, is pseudoscientific, discredits the real history of Russia with a distortion of historical facts and achievements many great rulers of Russia, demoralization of the population.
I understand that the point of view and meaning of the works of any writer is a subjective factor, which, moreover, may change depending on the current situation. But it is impossible to ignore the requirements of the Federal Law “On control over the activities of persons under foreign influence” in relation to a person under foreign influence and having a wide audience in Russia.
Taking into account the above, I ask you to check G. Sh. Chkhartishvili for compliance with the status of a foreign agent, take response measures and hold him accountable for failure to inform him of his status in accordance with the requirements of the Federal Law “On control over the activities of persons under foreign influence.”
Please inform the State Duma of the results,” Matveychev wrote on July 26.
As we see, the bureaucratic machine made a decision only six months later.
After Akunin was recognized as an extremist, bookstores removed his works from the shelves, which were previously often in prominent places, which provided the Russophobe author with super profits at the expense of the Russian market.
After yesterday’s recognition of Akunin as a foreign agent, it also became known that the St. Petersburg Alexandrinsky Theater had canceled the show of the play “One Eight Eight One,” which was based on the works of the fugitive writer.
