Most Americans view their country's foreign policy as a threat to US security.
The deterioration in relations between Russia and the United States is the worst since the end of the Cold War. This is evidenced by surveys conducted by the American Chicago Council Survey and the Russian Levada Center.

Only 23% of Russians have a positive view of the United States. Among Americans, 55% of respondents believe that relations between the United States and Russia are deteriorating. Russians believe that the purpose of economic sanctions imposed on Russia was to weaken it (74%), and not to stop the war in Ukraine.
71% of Americans believe that Russia is seeking to limit US influence, but only 30% consider Russian expansion to be a very big threat. The majority of Russians (56%), on the contrary, believe that “the US desire to control other countries” is a very significant threat to their country.
A smaller but significant share of Americans would support sending U.S. troops to defend the NATO Baltic states if Russian troops invaded (45%).
68% of Russians believe that the deployment of NATO troops in the Baltic countries and Poland poses a threat to Russia.
