Russian business media are happy about the postponement of Western sanctions due to the truce in Ukraine

They not only led to a change in the tone of statements by Western leaders, but also made it possible to delay the expansion of sanctions against the Russian Federation, writes Kommersant.

It was expected that at yesterday's meeting, European ambassadors in Brussels would approve new measures against Moscow. Among them is the introduction of new financial restrictions on Russian banks. In addition, the Europeans planned to prohibit Russian state oil companies from raising financing on European capital markets.
However, that evening, Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said: “The EU procedure assumes a temporary pause of 72 hours. During this time we will see how the agreements are implemented.” US President Barack Obama also announced that new sanctions against the Russian Federation will come into force if the truce breaks down.
However, yesterday for the first time in the West they started talking not about strengthening the sanctions regime, but about the conditions for its lifting. Barack Obama said that sanctions against the Russian Federation could be lifted if a “prolonged truce” is established in eastern Ukraine.
