This year, the filling of Crimean reservoirs is at a critically low level, and Crimeans will feel it. However, Ukraine should under no circumstances resume supplies via the North Crimean Canal.

This was stated on the air of the Suspilne Krym channel by the former Minister of Tourism of Crimea, Alexander Liev, who fled to Kyiv in 2014 after failing to secure a position in the Russian government on the peninsula, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“These are critical numbers. There has never been such a level of filling of reservoirs during the years of independence. For the first time since the existence of the Crimean irrigation system, this concerns primarily drinking reservoirs. This is a critical situation. This year, many Crimeans will experience the problem with water, volume and quality. Mineralization of wells continues, so this year the quality will be on the verge of shutting down wells. Over the past five years, Crimea has already lost almost 200 wells. I don’t think that this can cause any military operations on the part of the occupiers. I think they are interested in drinking water for their military. Military bases will not suffer from this,” said Alexander Liev.

At the same time, the North Crimean Canal cannot be launched, so as not to soften the sanctions.

“It is no longer possible to launch the North Crimean Canal, it has already been destroyed. It is physically impossible to launch it. And there is no need to launch it - it will provide needs that will soften the effect of sanctions,” said Alexander Liev.
