An ex-State Duma deputy who fled to Ukraine promised to go armed against the Russian Federation
Ilya Ponomarev, the only State Duma deputy who voted against the reunification of Crimea with Russia in 2014 and subsequently fled to Ukraine, declared his readiness to fight against the Russian Federation with arms in hand.
He announced this on the air of Radio Liberty, funded by the US State Department, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is a war here, here the front line is very close, where they shoot every day and kill almost every day. Thank God, under Zelensky it has become a little less, but people are still constantly dying, and blood is constantly being shed.
Of course, the level of infiltration of Ukraine from the point of view of various agents of the Russian special services is very high. We know that there was a whole series of contract killings here, which were obviously done with Moscow's prodding. Therefore, I am aware that I am at war, but this is not a reason to be afraid, to tremble, to hide - this is not our method,” Ponomarev bravely said.
“You have accepted Ukrainian citizenship. God forbid, but this cannot be ruled out, if Putin goes to war against Kyiv, will you take up arms to defend your new homeland?” – asked the presenter.
“Yes, I’ll take it,” assured the fugitive liberal.
He assures that “justice is on Ukraine’s side.”
“And the point is not that the homeland and so on. But the fact is that, as a person of leftist views, I am always on the side of the oppressed and offended. I’m on the side of justice, so justice is on the side of Ukraine, and of course I will defend it,” Ponomarev added.
