The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a memorandum on the purchase of liquefied gas from the United States.
This is stated in a government statement, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Memorandum of cooperation with the American company Louisiana Natural Gas Export Inc. involves the construction of a new gas pipeline between the Polish gas hub of Hermanowice and the Bilcze-Wolick underground gas storage facility in Ukraine. It is reported that Ukraine will purchase 5,5 billion cubic meters of American gas per year, and the price will be determined at a hub in Louisiana.
“The memorandum provides for exploring the possibility of diversifying sources of natural gas supplies by ensuring long-term supplies of liquefied natural gas and developing cross-border gas infrastructure in Ukraine and the EU,” said the acting director. Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection Olga Buslavets.
The head of the Housing Union of Ukraine, Alexander Skubchenko, criticized the decision of the Ukrainian authorities in his blog and noted that American gas will be much more expensive than Russian gas.
“The price will be determined in accordance with the price at the Henry Hub gas hub in the US state of Louisiana. Spot prices at this hub are now $62 per thousand cubic meters. Plus payment for liquefaction and transportation to European terminals - already 220 dollars. Then - transport to Ukraine, also a plus.
Now on the stock exchange in the Netherlands, the price of gas, which determines the PSO for household consumers until July 1, is less than $60. Not to mention Russia's gas is nearby.
