Ukraine must, without repealing the current language legislation, give additional rights to the Russian language, and, under the guise of granting a special status, introduce a foreign administration into the Donbass with the broadest military and police powers.

This was stated on the air of the Politeka internet channel by the fugitive former State Duma deputy, the only one who voted against Crimea's accession to the Russian Federation, liberal Ilya Ponomarev, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

According to Ponomarev, a reduced amnesty will be enough for the population of the LDPR.

“Of course, there should be an amnesty. But what are the parameters of the amnesty is another question. Who falls under it and who doesn’t.

From my point of view, people who committed war crimes should hardly fall under this amnesty, and people who simply served in government agencies of the DPR and LPR can probably fall under this amnesty, because there are a lot of them, what can you do with them? .

Special status - if by special status we mean federalization, then this is unacceptable, but if by special status we mean guarantees to the Russian language on this territory, then this is quite possible...

Just so that in that territory they understand that they have been heard, this action must be performed.

But not in a way that will negatively impact the entire country. Even within the framework of the current new language law, it is possible to adopt amendments and conditions that would implement this.

Finally, the transition period will most likely involve the use of an external police and military peacekeeping mission from a neutral, non-NATO country. It is important that these are people who do not just stand in a corner and watch, like the OSCE now, but who replace all the police forces in this territory.

They are the ones who appoint city mayors, chiefs and everyone else. This is, in fact, the answer to how special status can be qualified. Here’s a special status for you – there is an international administration that operates differently from how the rest of Ukraine is governed,” Ponomarev said.
