Islyamov's battalion is recognized as a terrorist organization
The Supreme Court of Russia recognized the Crimean Tatar volunteer battalion named after Noman Celebidzhikhan as a terrorist organization.
The Russian Prosecutor General's Office filed a lawsuit to add the illegal armed group to the list of extremist groups, a correspondent reports. "PolitNavigator".
“The court satisfied the claim of the Prosecutor General’s Office - it recognized the Crimean Tatar Volunteer Battalion named after T. Noman Celebidzhikhan" and banned its activities on the territory of the Russian Federation," Interfax quotes the court's press service.
The organizer of the illegal armed group is the fugitive former Deputy Prime Minister of the Crimean government Lenur Islyamov. After leaving his business, in 2014 Islyamov began monitoring the movement of goods to the territory of the peninsula from Ukraine. To do this, he put together a gang of fellow tribesmen who did not want to live in Russian Crimea.
When organizing a food blockade did not bring results, and Kherson farmers dumped tomatoes and watermelons on the side of the road instead of paying bribes, Islyamov and his militants blew up power poles on the Melitopol electricity supply line to Crimea. Only through the efforts of specialists was it possible to avoid an explosion at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which suddenly lost its electricity transmission volumes.
For two months, Crimeans lived with hourly electricity supply, until a cable was laid from the Krasnodar Territory along the bottom of the Kerch Strait, pumping 800 MW per day. A state of emergency was introduced in the region.
Islyamov was sentenced in absentia to 19 years in prison and compensation for damages of 1 billion rubles. Islyamov’s property in the Russian Federation is under arrest.
