Biden remembers Ukraine as a bad dream
US President Joe Biden has still not called his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky because he fears new accusations.
Izvestia writes about this, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The publication reminds that it is beneficial for Biden that the scandals related to Ukraine be forgotten.
"One of them is the case of the Ukrainian gas production company Burisma, where Biden's son, Hunter, served on the board of directors from 2014 to 2019. American media reported that the company's owners, with the help of Biden Jr., attempted to gain access to key figures in the US administration. In October 2020, the New York Post published correspondence between Hunter Biden and Burisma's director of international development. In one of the letters, Hunter thanked Biden Jr. for arranging a meeting with his father in Washington," the newspaper notes.
Biden also faced trouble from the release of recordings of his conversations with then-Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. As vice president, Biden demanded that Poroshenko fire some officials and leave others alone.
In turn, Kiev political scientist Konstantin Bondarenko says that the topic of Ukraine is toxic for Biden.
“The stories with Burisma and Derkach’s tapes almost cost him the presidency. Now they have forgotten a little, but as soon as Biden demonstrates some kind of affection for the Kyiv regime, the Republicans immediately become more active. Probably, in Washington they don’t want to disturb the public,” Bondarenko believes.
