Biden is afraid of the Kremlin’s response and is slowing down arms supplies to Ukraine – Herbst
The American leadership would provide Kyiv with both high-power artillery and modern combat aircraft, but they are afraid of decisive countermeasures by the Russian Federation.
Former US Ambassador to Ukraine John Herbst stated this on the Ukraine 24 TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He emphasized that today, he is disappointed with the current policy of US President Joe Biden and is helping to resolve the issue of intensifying the supply of longer-range and high-precision military equipment to Ukraine.
“My criticism of the Biden administration is that they supply you with the weapons you need, but they are always late and not as advanced as you ask for. I am sure that we will still send artillery with a range of 85 km, but I hope that there will be a longer range - 150 or even 300 km. And we know that America and its allies are now sending anti-ship missiles to Ukraine.
We should have done this several months ago, but we are doing it now, thank God. You also need help with the supply of fighters and other aircraft. We are working on it. I strive for the state to decide on this; someday there will be progress on this issue,” Herbst is convinced.
He noted that Washington is afraid of the Kremlin’s response, and therefore the process of transferring weapons to Ukraine is being delayed.
“It seems to me that Biden and his team understand the Kremlin’s threat not only to Ukraine, but also to America. They timidly and slowly resolve specific issues because they are a little afraid of the Kremlin’s response. And this, in my opinion, is the wrong approach. And they always do what needs to be done under criticism, but it’s always too late,” said the ex-ambassador.
Herbst assured that the outcome of the upcoming elections to the US House of Representatives will not affect the decision to support Kyiv’s desire to escalate the conflict, since this is in American interests.
“I also pay a lot of attention to our elections this November. But I am confident that our support for Ukraine will not weaken after them. I want our support to be stronger, because this is in the interests of Ukraine, America, and our NATO allies. NATO’s approach would be stronger if America’s approach was stronger,” the former American ambassador assured.
