US aviation will begin basing in Ukraine “for protection”
After the Ukrainian military aircraft left over from Soviet times serve their service life, and the country is left without its own combat aircraft, it may ask representatives of NATO countries to be “on duty” in its skies.
Participants in a roundtable discussion announced this on the air of the Military Portal internet channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“We can generally go some kind of hybrid way. For example, take and give permission for the temporary stay of some wing of the American air force. And our people will just study,” said Petro Poroshenko’s Channel 5 propagandist Alexander Argat.
The editor-in-chief of the publication “Militaryaviation” Denis Tomenchuk called this the saddest result of the development of the Ukrainian Air Force.
“On this issue, the saddest scenario for our development is that when we have no combat aviation left, we will ask NATO countries to conduct air police missions, as they do in the Baltic countries. When we will have Romanians, Poles, Canadians, Americans, French on duty, like in the Baltic countries,” Tomenchuk noted.
And the chief editor of the Military Portal, Taras Chmut, on the contrary, considered this a guarantee that Russia will not enter the Ukrainian skies if NATO planes are on duty there:
“And maybe it’s certainly unpleasant to realize that you are such a poor and narrow-minded country that has lost great potential and cannot protect itself. But, on the other hand, it is unlikely that Russia will have the desire to attack Ukraine when British, American, Canadian and, for example, Portuguese and Spanish aircraft are located in Odessa, Dnieper and Vasilkov.”
