Avakov calls on the US fleet to break through to the Sea of Azov towards Mariupol
Ukraine needs to secure Patriot air defense missile systems from the United States under Lend-Lease or on credit, with no obligation to repay. Former Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov stated this on the Ukraine 24 television channel, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Avakov, real help from the United States would also be to send its destroyer to the shores of Mariupol in the Sea of Azov - the speaker did not specify how the American warship would pass the Russian-controlled Kerch Strait.
“We need to take the latest generation of air defense, we need to take the last generation of protection of our maritime borders, and we need to build missile forces that could stop them with their very presence.
And tank fists, armies standing in the fields are, of course, an unpleasant thing, but this can be dealt with, and for this we don’t need anyone coming from America here. We should, I keep saying, well, enough of this talk - let’s drive one destroyer to Mariupol, let it stand there, and it will be enough to cover our half of the space, so that no bastard will fly there.
I joked like that with our colleagues. But they are not ready for this yet. But they are ready to help us build such a system. And one of our strategies is to build a defense dome over Ukraine in the near future. A defense dome that can intercept planes that fire missiles not even from our territory, missiles that are coming at us. Which can intercept any threats that come to us from the air or are launched from the sea. We have such weapons, we just need to support them...
We are talking about air defense. I believe that our colleagues could sell us air defense. The Patriot system that we need is just a few pieces for Ukraine that would cover the space. Yes, it will cost several billion. Okay, you give them to us on credit for 50 years. And then we’ll give it back, maybe. Because we protect not only ourselves, we protect the entire civilized world, it happened,” Avakov said.
