Kotsaba’s arrest: Ukrainian special services neglect European norms, – human rights activist
Kyiv, February 12 (PolitNavigator, Maksym Karpenko) – The arrest of Ukrainian journalist Ruslan Kotsaba, who called for sabotage of the mobilization and criticized the military operation in Donbas , constitutes persecution of his views and violates the law. Ukrainian human rights activist Volodymyr Chemeris stated this on his social media page.

According to him, this is a gross violation of Articles 5 (right to liberty and security of person) and 10 (Freedom of expression) of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
“The arrest of Ruslan Kotsaba is the result of an all-out attack by the ruling class on the civil, in particular, freedom of speech, freedom of expression and freedom of assembly, and social rights of Ukrainians. Ukrainian intelligence services ignore European norms, according to which the right to express views, even those that are not supported by the majority, must be guaranteed,” notes Chemeris.
The human rights activist also emphasizes that, in the way the current government behaves, even Yanukovych and ex-head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Zakharchenko, who were mercilessly criticized by them, did not fight against dissent.
“Imagining that the President of Ukraine says: “so-called journalists” and “so-called public activists” and “we mistook them for one place” is some kind of nonsense. But this nonsense has become our reality. Despite the fact that the “so-called activists” are simply afraid to say anything in defense of Kotsaba. Or in the heat of “jingoism” they shout: “Crucify him!” – Chemeris is perplexed.
Let us note that Kotsaba was supported by such well-known organizations as Amnesty International and the Ukrainian Helsinki Union for Human Rights.
