Anti-Putin rallies in Russian cities are still small
Rallies “For the right to be a citizen” are being held at the call of opposition leader Alexei Navalny in Russian cities. Applications were submitted in 89 cities and approved in 33. However, young people gathered to rally in places where it was prohibited.
To date, events have taken place in approximately 30 cities. The rallies were mainly attended by from several dozen to 500 people. The most numerous rallies took place in Krasnoyarsk and Yekaterinburg.
The common slogan of all actions is “He is not our king.” They are timed to coincide with the inauguration of Russian President Vladimir Putin, which will take place on May 7.
According to Navalny's representatives, in Krasnoyarsk, where the action was not approved, law enforcement officers detained the maximum number of Protestants - about 150 people. Detentions were also made in Penza, Chelyabinsk and Novokuznetsk.
